Hungry For Breakfast? Eat This!

When we heard that Anthony Bourdain had filmed and eaten at Eat, we had to check it out. After all, if it’s good enough for Bourdain, it certainly is good enough for us! Eat is the dream-vision of Colorado native chef Natalie Young made a reality by Tony Hsieh’s Downtown Project. This hip breakfast and lunch spot located on the corner of 7th and Carson is just across the way from the Container Park. The interior has a rustic/industrial-chic vibe complete with exposed ductwork, decorative reclaimed wood wall features, metal chairs, black and white photography, and concrete flooring. It is a cozy restaurant that was pretty hoppin’ when we went mid-week around around 1:00pm.

Even before going to dine at Eat, we checked out the menu thoroughly (or at least we thought we did). I already knew, before stepping into the restaurant, I was going to have the chilaquiles. I was really looking forward to it. My lesson learned is that it is best to check out the menu located on the actual restaurant website vs. one on Yelp because they are different. Had I checked thoroughly, I would have known that my beloved dish is not made after 11am; at the time, the Yelp menu did not have that distinction on it.

So, after having an internal temper tantrum of the First World kind, I settled on something from the lunch menu. I selected the free-range chicken sandwich made with fresh mozzarella, tomato, mixed greens, daigon sprouts, pesto, and mayo on ciabatta served with homemade potato chips. The moist sandwich was large enough to split in half and enjoy for another meal. The potato chips were warm and crispy; not overly salted. We also sampled the two eggs, bacon, chive potatoes, and toast. The breakfast toast is delightful! It is thickly cut and toasted to perfection. Make sure you ask for the homemade strawberry jam to accompany the toast. It reminded me of the jam my mother used to make every summer. Nom, nom, nom. Breakfast dishes range from $7 to $14 whereas lunch prices range from $4 for a cup of soup to $15 for a salad with meat added.

If you are staying downtown, we urge you to leave your hotel, go for a short stroll, and check out this local eatery that has the town buzzing. We like that the chef uses fresh, sustainable, locally-sourced organic ingredients and you should, too! Eat serves good food for the body and leaves the tummy happy. Enjoy!
